English as a Foreign Language

Within a CLIL framework expressed as the 4Cs, language facilitates 1) communication, 2) cultural awareness and understanding, 3) cognition, and 4) content. Another way to conceptualize this is to see the acquisition of language as an outcome of, for, and through learning (Coyle, 2007). Language of learning is understood as the acknowledgement that learners need to have access to linguistic concepts, systems, and skills in order to communicate and develop knowledge about subjects, themes, and topics.
